Saturday 13th April 2013 was the official launch of the new club. The Lord Mayor of Belfast Alderman Gavin Robinson opened the club after visiting for over an hour taking time to look at the facilities chat to member’s parents and members of the public who attended. Michael Copeland MLA Honorary Patron of the club accompanied the Lord Mayor on the day; both thought the transformation of the old Beechfield School was tremendous (It is still a work in progress)

mayor2Saturday saw a 52 foot Bouncy Castle Assault course in the car park and indoors we had Gladiators and Sumo Wrestling in the ring as well as displays of the members sparring. The club got nothing but positive feedback from everyone who came through threw doors, and most children went to bed that night without complaint totally burnt out on a fun packed day for the whole family. Those who missed it really missed a fantastic day although it so well we are thinking of doing it again at some point.

For those interested in boxing feel free to drop into the club I think you will be surprised to find some of the best Boxing Facilities in Belfast with great coaches and a family awaiting you. Boxing is and individual sport no doubt about that, however ever member of City of Belfast Boxing Academy become part of the family and team where everyone supports and encourages each other.

The club is more than a Boxing Club it is a community within a community with a fantastic family atmosphere where family’s come together. The children come to learn the skills and discipline of Boxing Mums and Dads can use the Parents room to chat while their children train or make use of the weights room and cardio room.

JasonSome very sad news from the club this week, Jason Kelly who visited the club during the Christmas Holidays, while back home from London sadly passed away recently aged 38 leaving behind a wife and young son. I had the privilege of meeting Jason with Colm Dynes who is a regular at the club and was not just a student of Jason’s but a very close friend. Jason was involved in many sports and had a great karma about him within minutes of chatting to him you felt you knew him all your life. An email from Jason’s wife summed Jason up when she put in it Jason LTD (Live the Dream) Jason managed to squeeze more into his young life than many of us could imagine and gained respect everywhere he went.

I had the pleasure to watch him train with Colm on his visit to the club and to call him a very talented sports person would only do him an injustice, I know some other members of the club knew him through various other sports and will miss him as will all his students Family and friends.

On behalf of everyone at City Of Belfast Boxing Academy, Farewell Jason and deepest sympathy to your Family and friends.
